IHRC meeting with National Human Rights Commission of Korea and Korea Immigration Service, 8 September 2010There are currently 65 National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) around the world who are considered fully in compliance with the Paris Principles. NHRIs meet together through the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC).The ICC is an association under Swiss Law. It's Statute is available here.
The ICC is supported by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights through a specialised unit called the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section, which acts as Secretariat for the ICC.
The ICC is also supported by a permanent representative in Geneva.
The ICC comprises four Regional Groups, each headed by one NHRI which acts as Chair. Each region also has a Regional Coordinating Committee which consists of the Chair plus 3 other regional NHRIs. The Regional Coordinating Committees of each region form the Governing Body of the ICC - the ICC Bureau.
The ICC elects a Chair from among its members. The current Chair is the Chief Commissioner of the New Zealand Human Rights Commission
